Assistant to the Artistic Director

Department: Theatre
Reports to: Artistic Director
Location: 564 Tsali Blvd, Cherokee, NC

Primary Function: Assists the Artistic Director and provides administrative support in the development and operation of CHA programs and casting.

Job Description: 

  • Assists the Artistic Director in ensuring the quality of products at Mountainside Theatre, including Unto These Hills, and any established programs within CHA’s venues
  • Attends and assists in coordinating local auditions
  • Responsible for preparing actor contracts and sending them out in a timely manner
  • Responsible for tracking all contracts, paperwork, headshots, and bios upon their return to CHA
  • Responsible for gathering all materials for the souvenir program and selling ads
  • Assists the Artistic Director in hiring a Housing Manager. Acts as a liaison between the Housing Manager and Artistic Director
  • Responsible for cast and crew housing assignments
  • Assists Artistic Director in all areas of productions at Mountainside Theatre, the educational tour, all programs CHA has in place and any new programs which may be added
  • Helps coordinate events and activities to expand the offerings at Mountainside Theatre to build a stronger cast and crew, generate revenue, and enrich the visitor experience 
  • Assists the Communications & Development Director in developing fundraising and special event programs to generate revenue 
  • Works within department budget
  • Works in accordance with the policies and procedures of Cherokee Historical Association
  • Assists with administrative office tasks as needed
  • Responsible for running company-related errands when needed
  • Completes other duties as assigned by the Artistic Director 
Requirements:
  • Some travel may be required
  • Some evenings and weekend hours may be required
  • Must be an ambassador for CHA and its programs
  • Must be able to work one-on-one with individuals and work with large groups of diverse personalities and lifestyles 
  • Requires the ability to coordinate activities and events

  • Must be willing to operate under set policies and procedures under the direction of the Artistic Director and Executive Director

  • Requires basic computer skills
  • Must be able to work with MS Word, Excell, and be an excellent proofreader
  • Must be able to work effectively as a member of a team or independently 

Experience: 

  • Previous administrative experience
  • Strong writing and organizational skills
