Oconaluftee Indian Village
Parking
Our parking lot is on a slope. You are always welcome to drop passengers off next to the box office before parking. Please watch out for other cars, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
The Path
The path inside the Village is a natural, mulched trail. There are some slopes and dips. Most of our patrons with mobility assistance devices are able to navigate the entire trail. Wet conditions may make the path more difficult.
Botanical Trail
The botanical trail is not part of the guided tour at the Village, and it is not wheelchair accessible. The trail goes uphill, and there are several sets of steps.
Bathrooms
There are accessible bathrooms outside the front gate of the Village as well as inside the Village, next to the square grounds.
Seating
There is seating at the square grounds and inside the council house as well as space for wheelchairs.
Natural Environment
Oconaluftee Indian Village is outdoors in a wooded area. Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. You may see wildlife such as birds, snakes, spiders, and other insects. We use wood fires throughout the Village, so you may see or smell smoke.
Sound
We do not have hearing assistance devices. We can provide a printed copy of the tour information upon request. Please let your tour guide know if you need to be in the front of the group or if you need them to speak up. You may be able to hear other tour groups through the Village. The dance demonstrations can be loud. The Time of War reenactment (summer only) includes a gunshot.
Unto These Hills
Parking
We encourage drivers to drop guests off at the box office before parking. We have several parallel parking spots close to the entrance that are reserved for accessible parking. The parallel parking area is flat, but the main parking lot is sloped. There will be parking attendants to direct you.
Seating
The amphitheater slopes downward toward the stage. The closer to the stage you are, the more steps you walk down. We encourage all guests to make use of our golf cart assistance. There is a golf cart waiting area near retail area where guests can sit and wait for the next golf cart. The golf carts bypass the stairs and go down a slope to the middle walkway of the theatre, which is behind Row S. Accessible seating is also in Row S. There are two accessible concession stands on this level as well as accessible bathrooms. The golf carts will drop you off in front of the beer & wine concession stand; they cannot drive you all the way to your seat.
The chairs are made of metal. You are welcome to bring a seat cushion or purchase one from our retail shop. Some of the chairs are taller than others. We provide small gray step stools to put your feet on for comfort.
Bathrooms
There are accessible bathrooms on the middle level of the theatre, next to the large concession stand. There are also small bathrooms at the top of the theatre.
Outdoor Venue
The amphitheater is outdoors, and the seating area is uncovered. Please come prepared for the weather. You may bring blankets, ponchos, umbrellas, etc. If you choose to use an umbrella, please be mindful of the people sitting behind you. Please see the Visitor Polices page for more info on our weather cancellation policy.
It is possible to encounter birds, snakes, spiders, and other insects in the theatre.
Sound
We have a limited number of hearing assist devices at the theatre. We can provide large print scripts for patrons to check out. Please request ahead of your visit. There are a number of loud sounds in the show including gunshots and cannon fire.
